I was right...

I was worried that when I started setting the timer for Gavin to go potty, he would get use to that "ding" and think he has to go to the bathroom everytime he hears a buzzer somewhere. So, I stopped using the timer after the first day, and started reminding myself every 45 minutes to set him on the potty.

Well, today, 1 week later, he is doing great. However, he was hiding under the kitchen table today about 10 minutes after he had already gone "pee-pee" and the dryer buzzer went off and Gavin says "Oops, it's time to go potty"

I was right, I new that sound would set a permanent fixture in his head about having to pee everytime he hears an alarm somewhere. I hope he grows out of it before he's dating a cute girl and hears the school bell ring, and tells her that he has to go "pee pee".

Potty update

We made it through 3 hours of church yesterday without an accident! YIPPIE. I am so proud of how good Gavin is doing potty training. In fact, today when we went to pick up Brooklyn from her bus stop, Chuck (the bus driver, and retired fireman) brought him a School Bus (a little bigger than a matchbox car), and said "he is proud of him going potty on the big boy potty." We love Chuck! I hope to get a picture of him soon and post it. Brooklyn is the last stop on his route, so he lets Gavin check out the bus most days. He thinks it's the best in the whole world. The worst part is trying to get him off the bus!

Brooklyn's talk

This is going to be a long post, I'll warn you. At the beginning of this year we were given an assignment from the Primary presidency to think of an ancestor or family member that we think is (or was) a great example in the gospel. Once we thought of that person, we needed to write a talk about them. Then we needed to turn this talk into one of the presidency and keep a copy for ourselves (our children) and be prepared to make a doll representing this person at an upcoming primary activity. They would also read the talks again at the primary program in October. Great idea, right?

Well, I was not excited about this assignment. Needless to say Brooklyn and I talked about who it was she wanted to write her talk on. Quite a few people came into her thoughts (I won't mention names to be fair, okay, okay- Grandma Head & Grami'mi'), but we finally decided to write her talk about Daddy. She came up with most of it and even add libbed a story in the middle of her talk. Here it is...

"My Family has responsibilities"

My Mom takes care of me and my brother and our house.

My brothers responsibility is to learn how to play nice and be kind to others.

I need to be a good example to my brother and I also make my bed and help with the dishes.

My Dad goes to work and helps provide for us. He also has another very important responsibility. He holds the priesthood. That means he can give me a blessing when I am sick or if I'm having a hard time with something.

INSERTED ADD LIB NOW:
One time when we were in Floida, I got really sick and I wasn't having a very good time. My dad gave me a blessing and I started feeling better, and could enjoy the warm weather.

I love my family and I'm thankful that my dad is a valiant priesthood holder. I hope to marry someone like him someday.

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We had to turn in the dolls that we made, so when we get them back in October, I will post a picture. I must say, Brian looks pretty handsome as a doll!

My Boy is 3

I no longer have a baby in this home. Okay, so I haven't had one in about a year now, but he really is my big boy. These last few years have flown by. Let me just reminisce...

"Buzz"

Gavin has been on a Toy Story / Buzz Lightyear kick lately. I have actually shown him both Toy Story 1 and 2. This is what he says when he wants to watch a particular one;
"I watch Andy's woom (room)?" = Toy Story 1
or
"I watch Buwzz wightyear?" = Toy Story 2

He doesn't like the beginning of #2 because of the Buzz lightyear video game. It must scare him a little bit. There are only 3 movies that Gavin has absolutely fallen in love with. They are: Cars (of course), Wall-e, and Toy Story.

"This is what it is"

I love this. When Brooklyn gets excited to tell us something, she usually starts her story like this; "Okay, so this is what it is" Then proceeds to tell us her story. I just love how this memory will always be remember.

My 6 year old

Brooklyn is such a beautiful little girl. She is so polite and well mannered. I've notice a few little traits that she needs to work on still. For example; She want's to please everybody. She doesn't want to do wrong and when she does, she gets very upset and sad. I blame myself. We are two very emotional girls. And, I'm an OCD mom that strives for perfection. Not good.

At school, her teacher says that she likes to get her work done fast, and doesn't take time to talk to friends and enjoy the socializing because she's too worried about the assignment. I feel she has some great tendancies to be a leader some day. But, for now, I've notice she needs the approval of things and people. Again, I blame myself. When she was younger, I talked a lot for her, because people couldn't understand her, and by doing that, I think she looks at me for the thing to say. As much as this can drive me crazy, I realize that I need to take my time and work on that with her at a slow pace.

Brooklyn is my everything. She can make me feel better when I don't even know what's wrong. She loves to cuddle. She loves books. She can play independantly and has a wonderful imagination. She has many friends. She is a great big sister, and is so patient with Gavin. She is a health finatic! Believe it or not. She would rather eat "Healthy" food, not things that are "Bad for you," she says. She is a great beginner piano player and will be a beautiful, talented Pianist some day. Brooklyn is so funny too. She likes to let loose and be crazy silly to make others laugh. I love my sweet, little girl.

Gavin quirks

Every single time we get Gavin's shoes on, he has to hide one behind his back. EVERY Time. He gives a laugh out too, cause he thinks he's being funny.
